Welcome to My Blog!

Hi and welcome to my Blog. Currently I am a Special Education Teacher at Clayton Partnership School which is a part of Mapleton School District in Thornton, Colorado. This will be my third year teaching in this district, previously having taught Special Education in Eagle County School District for four years. Though Mapleton is an urban district and Avon Elementary rural, one common trait has sparked my interest and my continuing education- the education of English Language Learners (ELL's).

I have had the unique opportunity to enrich my personal and professional growth by attending a Spanish Language school in Alajuela, Costa Rica. I was awarded a Grant through the public foundation Fund for Teachers, locally funded by The Public Education & Business Coalition (PEBC). Read more about these great organizations by clicking on my links to the right of this page.

I embark on my adventure the 30th of June and one way I plan to share my experience is through this blog. Please feel free to respond with questions, I'm not sure how often I'll be able to get to a computer in Alajulea but I'm hoping for every day!

Project Description:
The purpose of the program is to teach Spanish and culture in order to facilitate effective communication between educators and the growing community of native Spanish-speaking LEP students and their parents. Through this program I will be exposed to a variety of cultural settings and have the opportunity to meet with local teachers. I hope to bring back much information to share with my staff and community as well as brush up on my own Spanish Language abilities.

Stay tuned for more information on my project.

Adios!
